Skill Level: Beginner to advanced. The focus is on calligraphed envelopes, so to do the work you will need some prior experience. If you just want to learn about making beautiful envelopes and how to sell them, no experience necessary!

Classes dates: Live weekly classes on Thursdays at 6pm CT beginning June 22, 2023 and ending on July 20, 2023.

Week 1 Class:

Intro to Envelope Addressing

In this class, we will go over the basics to give you full confidence in mailing calligraphed envelopes. We will examine the anatomy of an envelope, dissect addresses, and sift through postage guidelines. We’ll move on to discussing useful tools you can use to help you create your envelopes, as well as actually writing on the envelopes. For this last portion, we will actually write on envelopes to discuss x-heights, simple layouts, centering, and flourishing.

Week 2 Class:

Deciphering Postal & Etiquette Rules

This week, we start by wading into the wild territory of postal regulations. I often joke that if you ask three post offices how many stamps you need to mail an envelope, and you’ll get four answers. I’ve collected a lot of information over the years that will take some of the mystery out of these rules. We will talk about how different inks, sizes, and thicknesses affect how your envelope will need to be mailed, and we will even talk about sourcing vintage postage. Then, we will dive into the world of etiquette, which will be especially helpful if you plan on addressing envelopes for formal occasions (like weddings).

Week 3 Class:

Show It Off!

This week’s class is all about sharing your envelopes whether you want to create a portfolio or grow your Instagram. I’ll share my favorite styling/flatlay tips, how to take the photos, and even how to edit the photos in Lightroom so your work looks its best. After this, we will talk Instagram with post ideas, reels ideas, and strategy.

Selling Your 'Lopes

It’s time to trek into the wilderness of *Envelopes As a Business!* In this class, I’ll give you my best tips on selling your services as an envelope calligrapher. We will talk about useful steps to take before landing your first client, where to find clients, as well as the client process. I’ll also go over some basic marketing ideas.

Week 5 BONUS Class:

Wild + Adventurous Addressing!

In this class, we will be having some fun with creating embellished envelopes that will bring delight to the recipient. We will use watercolors, metallic paint, simple illustrations, and unique layouts to make envelopes that are a work of art. We will include some discussion time too in case there are any thoughts or questions.
