Krafty Lettering

In this class, you’ll learn:

  • Types of Kraft paper and a few purposes for using them,
  • Tips for lettering Kraft paper with paint pens, gel pens, brush pens, or pointed pens

After joining in on this class, you’ll be equipped to confidently handle projects on Kraft paper large or small! 

Materials Needed:

  • Kraft paper (envelopes, paper, gift tags, journals, anything made from Kraft paper) 
  • Posca Paint Pen (any will do, but this is my preferred paint pen)
  • Brush pens
  • Pointed pen and nib
  • Gel pen

Drawing the Acanthus Motif

The acanthus leaf is an artistic motif going back as far as Ancient Greek architecture. Once you learn to recognize it, you will see it everywhere and start to understand how to approach creating your own. In this class, you'll learn to create the Roman period acanthus style and we'll apply it to a stunning stationery suite design with drawing, painting, and wax seals.

Watercolor Painting: The Seven Species

In this jam packed class, you'll learn to use watercolors to paint pomegranate, fig, wheat, barley, dates, grapes and olive plants, all known as part of 'Seven Species' (Deuteronomy 8:8). We've done the first session of monoline uncial, and now you're ready to progress to the next step! In this session, I will introduce you to pointed pen uncial with some warmup exercises. Then, we will go through the script with a pencil, and finally we can ink up a nib!

Intro to Monoline Uncial Calligraphy

In session 1, you will learn Monoline Uncial using a pencil (or marker).  The monoline technique is a great way to learn the basic forms of any script. It is also a fun way to change up your writing style using everyday writing tools such as a pencil or marker or fountain pen. In session 2, coming in the next rotation, I will introduce you to pointed pen uncial with some warmup exercises. Then, we will go through the script with a pencil and then ink up a nib!
